Question (29  Jamadaa I 1426/July 6, 2005)

Assalamu'alaykum,

Which recitation is it, when the qaari, in soorah an nasr, in the last sentence, reads innahoo kaana tawwa a ba  (with hamzah in the middle) instead of "innahoo kaana tawwaabaa (with mad asli)?

In this link: http://quran.islamway.com/saad/110.mp3 a sheikh reads in such a way.

JazakAllahu khairan.

Question (26  Jamadaa I 1426/July 1, 2005)

Assalamu alaykum,
I am unsure of how to pronounce the hamza in certain situations. As an English speaker, it is easy for me to pronounce this letter at the beginning of a word but I am unsure of its sound when it is saakinah. The main problem is that the tajweed books never seem to classify its sifaat or characteristics. Mu'min is an example of a word in question. I can pronounce the hamza in this word two different ways. The way I assume to be correct is to not let any air escape after pronouncing the hamzah and to go directly to the meem. The other possibility is to let air escape in between the hamza and the meem as it does in the letters taa' and kaaf. When one stops on a word with hamza as the last letter such as in the word wuDoo', how long is the hamza held? I find it hard not to let a puff of air release after pronouncing it as if I where pronouncing a final taa'. Another question about a different issue regards the pronunciation of 'ayn and 7aa'. I was wondering if the tongue changes position at all during the pronunciation of these letters even though the articulation is in the middle of the throat. When I pronounce these two letters, my tongue appears to tense slightly and sometimes retract a bit from all the exertion in my throat.
I greatly appreciate any tips on the pronunciation of these letters.
Wa salaam

Question (30  Rabee' Thanee 1426/June 7, 2005)

Assalaamu 'alaikum.
Being new to Arabic and without a teacher, one of the tajweed rules that has caused me some confusion is the rule of deviation. I am relatively confident in my pronunciation of Laam but I have read a lot of conflicting information on the articulation of Raa'. Since this letter has the undesirable sifaat of repetition, is the tongue placed in a position close to that used to create a rolled "r" heard in many Arabic dialects or is it entirely different. On your excellent page of tajweed lessons, it states that the left and right sides of the very tip of the tongue are used to produce Raa'. Is there actually a visible passage running down the tip of the tongue or is the air supposed to escape to either side of the tip. In my practice, I can stop the repetition by letting the air escape to either side of the tip similar to the American (L), but I have not been able to make a opening in the center of the tip appear. In recordings of reciters that I have listened to, the raa' does indeed sound similar to an curled (L). Another question I have is whether or not the rule of deviation is applied to the laam and Raa' when saakin.
Wa salaam.

assalaamu'alaykum,

This site mashaAllah is quite beneficial alhumdulillah jazakallahu khayran, but I would like to advise you on one thing if I may.  In searching for a certain question and answer, you should try and put a "search" box in order to do exactly that.  For I tried to find this question I know is there and I could not and it is way tooooooooo lengthy to search through every single question and answer when pressed for time or anytime actually.

Question (18  Rabee' Thanee 1426/May 26, 2005)

Assalamu Aleikum wa rahmatu lilahi wa barakatuh

A) I have notice that in the first verse of surah 63 (al munafiqun) they are two ways the nouns munafiqin  is written: the first is : MUNAFIQUN ("idha djaa'akal munafiquna...") and the second is MUNAFIQIN ("...wallahu yashadu innal munafiqina...") My question is:
a) What is the difference between "munafiqun" and "munafiqin"
b) Would it have been correct to only write either nouns without choosing the other? For example write: "Munafiqun" all throughout the surah or vice versa?

B) Secondly, the prophet Muhammed (pbuh) used to stop at the end of an ayah when reading the Quran. Did he also used to join two ayah together (or joining two words) when reading? Is it sunnah or farda to join ayah while
reading?
May Allah help you inshallah

Question (13  Rabee' Thanee 1426/May 21, 2005)

Salam,
I want to be able to read the Quran with proper tajweed, I know a little bit of the basics.  I see that it is important to have a teacher, I have found a teacher but she says she can start teaching me after 2months.  My question to you is 'what can I do in the meantime? Would u advise me to learn all the rules and to be familiar with them, if so how shall I exactly do this? I have exams at the moment and so how shall I manage with time?  I don’t want to wait till after I finish my exams I as I feel the sooner I start the better and that if I wait around I will lose the motivation and passion I have to learn tajweed.
Jazakallu khair for your time and effort

Question (11  Rabee' Thanee 1426/May 19, 2005)

bismillahi rahmani rahim

Assalamou alaikum,

I'm an English convert. I'm presently taking tajweed lessons in a group, do you think that it's enough to do it in a big group (which is free) or do you think that to
really perfect one's recitation one needs to do individual lessons (which are quite expensive here in England)?

I've been learning Qu'ran by imitating the recitor Mishary Rashid al-Efasy, as I love his way of reciting, but I've been advised that I should learn it off Mahmood al-Hosary as he's the best and clearest
recitor to learn from. What do you think?

My last question: I was looking through the questions and answers on your site and I was shocked to read that there's difference of opinion on the number of ayat/verses in the Qu'ran. How can this be? I thought that there was only 1 version of the Qu'ran, it's not like the bible which has been changed over time so therefore there are many different versions. Surely the Qu'ran is the preserved and unadulterated word of Allah which we're all sure about, if this is the case how can there be ikhtilaf on the number of verses? This upsets and worries me!!!

Barak Allahu fik for all your efforts to spread the Haqq.

Hope to hear from you very soon.

Assalamou alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh

Question (4  Rabee' Thanee 1426/May 12, 2005)

Assalamu Alaikum,

I have begun to study Tajweed through a teacher. He teaches many rules about it. I have one basic question regarding Tajweed. Is there any evidence that the Tajweed that is been taught is same as that of what Prophet (pbuh) approved or taught?. I read your article "Why should we read the Qur’an with tajweed?" and still I couldn't get answer to my question. I understand that there are only very few hadith tracing back to Prophet (pbuh) about how he used to recite the Quran. My question is, can we be sure that the complete rules of Tajweed as it is laid down today is as the same as Prophet (pbuh) approved or taught?

Could you be kind enough to answer my question?.

May Allah guide us. Thanks.

Your website is very good, Macahhaallah.

I would like to use it to teach children about tajweed. Actually, I would like you to help me and know how to teach it. I have been asked to teach tajweed to a group of Asian girls, and their parents. However, I feel I need to know how to go about it. Would you please help me?

Thank you!!

Assalamu 'alaykum

Could you please make a PDF version of all the materials on your site on Tajweed, so that it benefits more and more brothers and sisters (without having computer/internet facility). I consider your site as the best on Tajweed and has great potential to help more people. Please consider my suggestion. Best regards.
