Question (26 Safar 1425/Apr.
16, 2004)
Assalamu'alaykum,
There are at least two readers whom I know of who read mad jaiz munfassil as
two harakat, namely, Sheikh Muhammad Jibreel and Sheikh Mahmood Khaleel al
Husary (Sheikh Husary has also recorded his reading, with Mad Jaiz Munfassil
as four).
I think it is a good idea if you put in a PDF format the conditions of reading
Mad Jaiz
Munfassil in two harakat ie the way of Hafs an Asim by the tariq of At
Tayyibah for downloading and easy reference. Are there really a lot of
conditions?
jazakAllahu khairan for your effort.

Assalamu'alaykum.
When I was reading the part of Mad 'Aarid Lissokoon, I did not find the
various ways of reading this particular Mad in your site or most probably I
missed it.
I have read that if the last letter is fathah, there are 3 ways to read it,
namely 2,4 or 6 harakaat.
If it is, kasrah, there are 4 ways to read it, namely 2,4,6 or 2 harakat with
raum.
If it is dhommah, there are 7 ways to read it, 2,4,6, or 2,4,6 with raum or 6
with ishmam.
Is this information correct in the way of As Shatibi? Please give me the
correct information. And can you find any qari who reads Mad Aarid Lissokoon
with 2 harakaat (raum) and ishmam?

khairan

I was reading through question 09040402 concerning how qurraa get their
rhythm such as sheikh Al Husary. You wrote that in his book, the sheikh warned
about those who lengthen more than it is prescribed such as adding or
subtracting a vowel in order to embellish the recitation. My questions are:
1. Would you please give us a specific and well detailed example of adding
and subtracting a vowel more than it is prescribed in the recitation?
Therefore, we (those who are learning to improve their recitation) will not
attempt to
make the same mistake involuntarily.
2. Do you or did you know of any reciter who would add or subtract more in
order to embellish his/her recitation? If yes what are their names?

I have a question regarding Muslim students who have memorized the entire
Qur’an:
Are the students introduced to an audience and then congratulated? Is there
any ceremony organized? Do they (the students) have to recite the entire book
by stage in front of qualified professors of the Qur’an?
May Allah help you inshallah.

Assaalamu'alaykum,
I read your brief history of Sheikh Mahmood al Husary with deep interest.
How do the qurra get their rhythm? I've listened to many qurra, but until now
I have yet to find someone who can really intone Al Quran like Sheikh Husary
does.
JazakAllahu khairan.

I need to know two things.
The first one is that when we stop between an aayah like a long aaya, our
breath if broken I have been told that we would make the last letter with
vowel into a sukoon (when stopping) . If this is correct what type of waqf is
this called. And if we stop on it then do we have to join it with the letter
preceding when reading further or we say that yes we have converted it into a
sukoon so start from next word?
Second in the last para (juz’ 30) there are many verses in which there is a
waqf and then the next word starts with a 'wow mushaddadah'. If we stop at
waqf then either we could repeat the last word and join it with the 'wow
mushaddadah' or we could read it without joining it with wow mushaddadah.(i.e.
we are reading only one wow in this case)? The third option would be not to
stop at waqf and continue reading in one breath which I know is correct. One
verse for example is 'surah inshqaq aayah 8,9 and11, 12'.

Assalaamu Alaikum wrwb,
You said "Knowledge of tajweed is fardh kifayaah, meaning some of the
Muslim community must know it, and its application is fardh 'ain, required by
all Muslims (men and women) who have the complete Qur'an or part of it
memorized, even if only one surah." Where are you getting this hukm from?
I have read replies from other scholars saying that the hukm of Tajwid is
emphasized sunnah. I will be very grateful.
Jazak Allahu Khair.

What is the
definition of sakinah? I know when there is jazm on it or when we stop on stop
on some letter and drop its vowel but considering huroof mad in Quran there
are words like there is wow with nothing on it no vowel or jazm and preceding
it is a letter with dhamma or written on top of it is a letter with dhamma so
is this huroof mad then?
I know alif is not huroof madd when it has jazm because it is then hamza
pronounced with jerk

1. I would like
to know how many authentic ways of recitation, from the prophet Muhammad
(peace be upon him) to our Umma of today, have been transmitted? Are they
7 or 10?
In
surat
Al Hijr, verse 87 when Allah the Almighty says "And indeed We have
bestowed upon you the seven of Al-Mathâni and the Grand Qur'ân" He is
referring to the 7 ways of recitation or something else?
2. I have
seen sheikhs crying while reciting the Qur'ân, therefore, I would like to
know whether the prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) used to cry sometimes
while reading the Qur'ân to his community.
