4. () The pronoun or direct object

The normal rule for , as we studied in the recitation rules for Hafs ‘an ‘Aasim, is that if the  denotes  a single, male, third person, and is not part of the original root of the word, and is located between two voweled letters, it is lengthened two vowel counts, or if a follows it, it is lengthened the same length we are using for .  Qaloon reads some words in contradiction to the normal rules of  .

I. In the first set of words which follow, Qaloon reads the  without any lengthening.   These words are:

Note:   (meaning both Qaloon and Warsh) reads the word with a kasrah on the , ie: .

(Az-Zumar 7)

Note: In this word, Qaloon reads it the same way as Hafs ‘an ‘Aasim.

 

All the above words are read with no lengthening of the , instead the is read with a shortening () with only one vowel count.

 

II. In addition to these words, Qaloon reads the in the word  in the following aayah with two allowed ways: with a shortening to one vowel count, and the other allowed way, with two vowel counts on the , with the shortening given preference:


(Ta-Ha 75) .

 

 III.  Qaloon reads the  in the following words with a kasrah, but no , which is different than the reading of Hafs ‘an ‘Aasim.:

  

 

IV.   (Qaloon and Warsh) reads the word without   in the aayah: (Al-Furqan 69) .

 

5. The Lengthenings

Qaloon reads with four vowel counts, and is read with two allowed lengthenings, either two vowel counts, or four vowel counts.
