Question (25 Dhul Hijjah 1424/Feb.16, 2004)

Assalamualaikum wa rahmatullah

I just read your comments on the question about the qurra and it is very daunting. But please can you mention a few words about those qurra who have not chosen the way of haram and recite for the benefit of the Ummah and not personal gain.  JAZAKALLAHU KHAIRAN.

Question (19 Dhul Hijjah 1424/Feb.10, 2004)

As-Salaamu alaykum wa Eid mubarak,

Jazakumullahu Khairan for all of the knowledge of the correct recital of the Book of Allah that you have helped to spread through this site.  May Allah continue to bless you efforts.

There was a question on stopping maa al-istifhaamiyyah when the alif has been deleted in words like "feema" or " lima " dated 23 Dhul Qa'dah 1424/Jan 15, 2004.

I have a question about the permissibility on stopping on "haa as-sakt" in these cases. I have a book, "Jaami3 duruus al-arabiyyah", that says that when maa al-istifhaamiyyah (questioning maa] is majruur bi7arf Jaarr that waqf 3alaa [stopping on] haa as-sakt is ajwad [better].

Is this permissible in the recitation of Hafs 'an 'Aasim or in any other recitations?

Also, is it permissible to stop with haa as-sakt in the recitation of Hafs 'an 'Aasim (or in any other recitations) when stopping on stopping on a fi3l madhaari3 [present tense verb] majzuum mu3tall al-aakhir [with a weak ending and affected by a letter or condition] lam yattasiil bi aakhrihi shay'un (like lam yamshi, laa tadu3) or on fi3l amr mu3tall al-aakhir [command verb with a weak ending] mabnee 3alaa 7adhf  aakhirih [with last letter deleted] like "imshi, udu3u"?

Jazakumullahu khairan
As-Salaamu alaikum

Assalamu Aleikum

May Allah reward you for the information (about the Qaris) and May He make our invocations and intentions deeply sincere to Him and Him only inshallah.

Although I can read the Quran in Arabic, there are certain terms that I do not know such as saakinah and medd. Would you please tell us the definition of a "Saakinah letter" and a "Medd letter"?

Question (8 Dhul Hijjah 1424/Jan 30, 2004)

Assalamu Aleikum,

Beside the Egyptian reciters, from sheikh Abdel Basit to those present, who recite the Qur’an in front of an audience (usually in mosques), are there other nationalities that do so? In other words, do Saudi reciters, for instance, do the same as Egyptian reciters?

Who was the first reciter to recite in front of audiences during the time of the prophet Muhammad (Peace and blessings of Allah upon him)?

May Allah help you in finding the answers inshallah.

Question (5 Dhul Hijjah 1424/Jan 27, 2004)

Assalamu Aleikum

I have noticed that among the 28 letters of the Arabic alphabet, two never carry the shadda: The alif and the hamzah. Is there a specific rule that suggest that those two letters not carry the shadda? Would you please tell us why
is it so?

Ma salam
