Question

I have a dilemma. Currently I have 2 boys that need to learn the holy Qur’an. I have a gentleman from Pakistan how is a renowned Hafiz but his pronunciation of some letters are different to what my boys have been learning at Sunday school (the Arabic way). For example after SAAD is DAAD in Arabic but in Pakistan it is not this way but SWAAD and ZWAAD. I do not want my children to learn the wrong way but I also do not want to offend this gentleman. Are both ways correct ?

Answer

Assalaam alaikum.

There is only one correct way to pronounce these two letters in recitation.  If the current brother that teaches your sons pronounces these letters as written in the question, then it is not correct, and this is considered an obvious error in recitation ( ).  If there is someone better to teach your sons it is recommended to politely apologize to the current teacher, stating the reason.  It may be he will seek out a teacher to help him fix these mistakes and then return to teaching your children once this is accomplished.
