Question

Are the tajweed terms such as ithar, ikfaa'  and so forth named as such by the prophet, Allah's peace and blessings on him?

Answer

Tajweed was part of the natural oration of the Arabs at the time of the revelation of the Qur’an.  There was no need for terms and definitions to learn how to recite the Qur’an, it was recited just as they spoke.  Over the years non-Arabs entered Islam, Islam spread to the far reaches of the world, and the pure classical Arabic became corrupted with colloquialisms.  The need then arose to write down and define the articulation points of the letters and the proper rules for recitation, to keep the recitation pure and unadulterated from the original recitation of our Prophet, .  The scholars of then in the centuries after the Prophet, did the great task of writing down these definitions and descriptions and assigned names to them.
