Assalaam alaikum and thank you for your feedback.  The word “al-basmalah” () indicates the phrase , just as the word “al-isti’aadhah” () indicates the phrase , and the word “takbeer” represents the phrase .  There are many times in the Arabic language where a word is used to represent a phrase. 

There was no mistake then, the word  represents the phrase    and is written with a fat-h on the ba’.
