Can we read any narration according to any of the ayah counts?

Question
asalamu alaykum,

2 questions,

The first one is very important

1. Can we read any narration according to any of the ayah counts? I have a mushaf of Qalun in the kufa count, and Dar al Maarifah published Warsh according the kufa count as well. Nafi is from medinah and I thought he could only use the two counts from medinah.

2. Could you write the names of the scholars who complied each ayah count? A little history would be useful as well if possible.

Answer
Wa alaikum assalaam wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh,
We asked this of a scholar of tajweed and the answer was that you should use the mushaf with the aayah counts which is the same as the riwaayah, so for Nafi' you should use the Medinee count.

2.  Caliph 'Uthman sent out musaahif to different Muslim lands and sent each mushaf with the way of recitation prominent in that area with the aayah counts which matched that way of recitation.  The aayaat were not numbered, but there was an indication of the aayah end by a dot.
Allah knows best.
