Question
Assalamu Alaykum,

HAFS:-

I have a question regarding the mudood in the Quran. I have noticed that certain reciters are inconsistent (or appear to be) with the small madd. For example, as in the verse 'Fazkurooneeee azkurkum'.
My question is if you choose to pronounce this madd with 4 counts do you have to be consistent with other instances of the small madd or can you pronounce it with madd certain times and leave it other times (in one sitting). Jazakallah

Answer
Wa alaikum assalaam wa rahmatulalhi wa barakaatuh
There should be consistency in the counts used  for al-medd al-jaa'iz al munfasil in one reading, so if one recites with one of the turuq  which has qasr or shortening of the medd al-jaa'iz then one should stick to that tareeq in that one sitting of recitation.

Having said that however, the reciters and imams are human and can make mistakes or slip, especially if they are reading long passages such as in taraweeh and tahajjud prayers in Ramadhan, so we should give them excuses for any unintentional  mistakes.
May Allah reward all those who lead prayers and move the hearts of the ummah with beautiful recitation and correct tajweed.  Ameen
