Question
Assalaamu alaikum wa rahmatu Allah,
May Allah bless you in this World and the Next for your free and beneficial service. My question is about the marked stops in the Noble Qur'an. One of those stops appears as 3 dots followed by another 3 dots a few words further on in an aayah. I learned that one stops at either of the 3 dots BUT not at both places. My question is: Is it ok not to stop on either? Jazakumu Allahu khair.

Answer

Wa alaikum assalaam wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh,
Jazakum Allahu khairn for the kind dua', may Allah grant you all khair in both Worlds.
The three dot stops are known as the embracing stop, and as you stated, one should stop at one or the other.  The reason for this is that there are different tafseers for each of the stops, and the meaning is either this or that, depending on which stop you use.
As far as not stopping, Imam Ibn Al-Jazaree, may Allah be merciful to him said:

And there is no required stop in the Qu'ran, and none forbidden without there being a reason.

So if the meaning is not changed to other than what Allah's words state by continuing, it is allowed.  It is not the preferred way to read continuing with no stop though since it is a sufficient stop () on either of them or in some cases complete (), but it is not forbidden.  .
