Question
Salem. I was wanting know whether somebody can get ijeza for koran reading if they not Hafiz? If you not allowed, why? wasalem Answer Wa alaikum assalaam wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh, The ijaazah is a sound chain of recitation passed down from generation to generation from the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah upon him through the sahaba, to the taab'ieen, then down the generations until the present day. It was always passed down by recitation by memory from the very beginning of the Qur'anic revelation. There are some that give out certificates for tilawah reading, meaning reading the Qur'an while looking and applying all the tajweed rules. This is a modern occurence, not one seen at the time of the Prophet peace and blessings of Allah upon him, or even the companions of the Prophet or the early generations after them. Some call it ijaazah, but most scholars of the Qur'an object to that since it misses out on an essential part of the Qur'an being passed down in authentic chains, that of it being done from the memory. This is why the correct ijaazah of recitation of the Qur'an is done by recitation from memory. Wa assalaam alaikum wa rahmatullah |
