Question
Assalamo alaikum. I wanted to know what the rules are for the Qira'ah of Hamzah for the basmalah as it mentions that there is Wasl (joining) of the 2 Suwar together without a basmalah. My question is, what do we do if we stop at the end of the surah, do we say the basmalah? Could you explain with as much detail as you can. jazak Allah khair Wasalamo alaikum Answer Wa alaikum assalaam wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh. The qira’ah of Hamzah joins two surahs together in one breath including the vowel of the last word of the first surah without a basmalah between the two surahs. This is when we are reading with wasl, or joining the two surahs together. Imam Ash-Shaatibyy said: And your joining between two surahs is purity of language. The letter in the word [which means: purity of language] is the symbol for Hamzah in the Shatibiyyah poem, but at the same time, we see that joining the two surahs together with the vowel on the last letter of the last word of the first surah and linking to the next surah shows the grammar and purity of the Arabic language. Many Muslims are actually unaware of the vowel on the last letter of the last word of a surah, and this way of reading shows the grammatical place of the word and makes very clear the meaning. If we stop at the end of a surah and take a breath, then start with the following surah, we must start the next surah with the basmalah. This rule is for all of the different qira’aat. Joining two subsequent surahs (wasl) without the basmalah is only done with the vowels of the end of the first surah, and in the case of the qira’ah of Hamzah, this is the only way the joining of two surahs is done. This cannot be done when stopping in between the two surahs. Wa iyyaaakum. Wa assalaam alaikum wa rahmatullah. |
