Question
How qualified a Tajweed teacher should be, is there any standard qualification Tajweed teacher should have. Answer Assalaam alaikum. The required qualifications of a tajweed teacher depend on the entry level of the class or person they are going to teach. If the students do not know how to read properly, make mistakes in the vowels and the timing of the vowels and medd letters, then the teacher needs to be able to read without any mistakes in the words and the vowels, the timing of the vowels, and the articulation points. He/She does not have to be a master in tajweed if they are teaching this level. For every step up in the students' level, the teacher needs to be more qualified and mastered. If they students can read correctly but don't know the basic rules of tajweed, then the teacher needs to have mastery in the beginning levels of tajweed and good knowledge of the more advanced tajweed concepts. If the students read well, and can apply all the basic rules, then the teacher needs to have mastery in the characteristics and their application, and in takfheem and tarqeeq. The teacher should have also have excellent knowledge of other tajweed concepts. If the students can read with the basic rules, takfheem and tarqeeq, and apply the characteristics of the letters, then the teacher needs to be a master of all parts of tajweed. If the student is accomplished in tajweed and has memorized the Qur'an, then the teacher should have mastered tajweed, memorized the Qur'an and have an ijazaah in the recitation of the Qur'an with a sound chain going back to the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah upon him. |
