I have a question regarding the separate allowed lengthening (Al madd al djaa izil munfassil).
In the recitation of Hafs but not in the way of Ash Shatibbiyyah, is it permissible to alternate al madd al djaa izz from 2 to 4 counts or vice versa?
For example in surah Al Hashr I was listening, the qari was lengthening to 2 counts (what needs to be lengthened to 2 counts in the recitation of Hafs but not in the way of Ash Shatibbiyyah) the whole surah until he switched and started lengthening to 4/5 counts on verses 22 and 23: "huwa llahu ladhi Laa ilaha illa hu..."

Djazaka lahu khrairan insha allah

Answer

Wa alaikum assalaam wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh,

In the reading of Hafs ‘an ‘Aasim min tareeq At-Tayyibah there are a few ways that read  two vowel counts except when there is the lengthening of the word indicating exception in a phrase stating there is no deity except Allah, the One and Only, then is  four vowel counts.   This specific lengthening is called , and this “lengthening for glorification” gives emphasis to the fact that there is no deity except Allah.  This happens in such phrases as:  and , to site a few examples.  is six vowel counts in this way, with changes in some other rules. One needs to know all the rules before implementing this way in their recitation.

Wa iyyaakum.
