Question
Assalamualaikum

What is the proper way to read the beginning of Surah Ash-Shura (ayah 1-2)? Do we have read them by joining both ayahs together or  by stopping at the end of ayah 1 then continue with ayah 2?

Answer
Wa alaikum assalaam wa rahmatullahi wa barakaatuh
The majority of scholars consider what is written in many musaahif as two separate aayaat as one aayah and not two, and for that reason, it is preferred to join them together reading the separate letters together in one long breath   .  One needs to keep in mind the long timings of most of the separate letters in this group, and make sure each letter gets its rights and dues in the time of the lenghtening.
