Question

Assalamou Aleikoum,
I would like to know : Did all the revelations that prophet Mohammed, Peace be upon him, received would start by: "Bismillahi Ar Rahmani Ar Rahim"? If they did, how come Surat At Taubah (Chapter 9) does not start by "Bismillah" like the other surahs?

Thank you very much and may Allah help you in finding the answer, inshallah.

Wa Salamou Aleikoum

Answer

Wa alaikum assalaam wa rahmatu Allahi wa barakatuh.

The different surahs of the Qur’an started with the basmalah, but surah At-Tawbah did not.  There are many explanations given for this, but the majority of scholars say it is because of the context of the surah.  It is a surah ordering the Muslims to fight the disbelievers, and the lack of basmalah shows the sternness of the context.  See also the following question and answer:

You are very welcome.  Wa assalaam alaikum wa rahmatu Allahi wa barakatuh.
