Question

Assalaamu alaikum wa rahmatu Allahi wa barakaatuh

With summer almost here, I am wondering if you would have some advice for students of the Qur'an who will have some free time while traveling (by air especially), waiting at airports, on long flights etc... as to how we could insha Allah make use of that time in spite of noise and distractions...

-and also as regards the time away from home as to how to keep up reading/memorisation?

Jazaakumu Allahu bi kulli khair.

Answer

Wa alaikum assalaam wa rahmatu Allahi wa barakatuh.

Indeed there is a great deal of time that can be put to use for our Hereafter when traveling. Reviewing the memorization can be done at anytime, and since it is already a section that is memorized, the student should be able to put the distractions of sounds aside and review well.  Memorizing or trying to memorize a new section needs more concentration and is best saved for the time in traveling when there is less noise such as when on the plane, train, car, or bus itself.

Upon arrival at one’s destination, the early morning hours before or after fajr are usually the best time to memorize and review since it is generally a quiet time with little noise and distraction.  It is always better to get the review and new memorization done at the beginning of the day.

May Allah help all students of the Qur’an keep up their review, memorize new parts during their travels, and make their day full of blessings from Allah. Ameen.

Wa iyyaakum wa-l-muslimeen.
