Assalamualaykum

Jazzak Allah khair for a beautiful website giving people help in learning how to learn tajweed and thus recite the words of Allah in the manner they should be.

I am trying to memorise more of the Qur'an and I wanted to know how often to revise what i have already memorised. How can one balance revision and new memorisation.

What is the best way of revising? Currently I read it over by looking at it and then read it from memory and sit with my teacher and recite to him.

The best way to balance new memorization and review is to have a set schedule that you do not relax in.  You should have two review schedules; one for old sections that you memorized before, this should be a large section every day, the second review should be for more recent memorization, and this can be a lesser amount. 

The method you use for review is good.  Looking at the words helps you keep a picture and reminds you of the vowels and words, then reading on your own from memory gives you a glimpse at how well them memorization is and whether it needs more work.  Finally, reciting to your teacher is a very important tool, so that any unknown errors you may have in the memorization can be pointed out, noted, and fixed. 

You should try to pass by everything you have memorized every week, every two weeks, or at least once a month.  The best is every week.
