Question

Assalamu Aleikum

May Allah reward us and accept our fasting inshallah. may He also give you a
good reward for having, and still continuing, helped all the Muslims with
their questions.
Thank you for the Dua that you provided.
I have a question regarding the memorization of the Qu'ran Juz by Juz.
Where I come from, my teacher used to teach us the surahs step by step. For
instance, we started from Juzu 'amma with surah 114 and then we gradually
increase to surah 113, 112, 111, etc. My question is, if I have completed correctly
Juzu 'Amma, and I would like to learn Juzu Tabarak, do I have to start with
surah 77 (Al Mursalât) or can I start with the surah that is less longer and
easier to learn (for example, surah 73, Al Muzzammil)?

May Allah help you find the answer inshallah.

Ma Salam

Answer

Wa alaikum assalaam wa rahmatu Allahi wa barakatuh,

Ameen, may Allah accept our fasting and righteous deeds.

It is better to start with surah Al-Mulk then go forth in order of the suwar in juz’ Tabaarak.  Often teachers will start beginners with surah An-Naas and go in backwards order through juz’ 30 so at the beginning the student will not find it difficult.  After that, unless they are children, the students usually memorize from the beginning of each juz’ to the end.  We don’t recommend that you start with an easier surah because you may later find a block when it comes to a surah not so easy. You would most likely find yourself with three surahs memorized well, and a perceived mountain in front of you for the rest of the suwar.  It is much better to go in order and take each section as it is whether easy or not so easy, and put in the extra effort needed when you find a section difficult to memorize.  Each surah has some easy and not so easy sections, so it is much better to tackle it in order and avoid any big frustration.  May Allah make memorization of the Qur’an easy for you and for all striving to memorize the book of Allah.

Wa assalaam.
