Question

Assalamu Alaikum Wa Rahmat Allah Wa Barakathahu,

I would like to get your valuable advise on this issue.  I am an Indian, I used to recite the Holy Qur'aan every often and while.  But in most cases, I don't know the exact meaning and hence, I cannot go so deep in to it.

But when I browse your site, I found there a statement that reciting without pondering is less rewarded.  So I doubt that my recitation will be rewarded as an exercise by mouth only.  How I can get rid of these problems.

I will be grateful to you for your kind advise.

Regards

Answer

Wa alaikum assalaam wa rahmatu Allahi wa barakatuh.

Reading the Qur’an, if done seeking Allah's pleasure and reward, is rewarded whether you understand the meaning or not, but if you read and ponder, it is known that the reward is more.  Rewarded less for reading without pondering does not mean not rewarded. This should be a push for you to increase your vocabulary and ability to understand the words of Allah.  Do not let Shaytaan make you believe that because you are not able to ponder deeply you should recite less.  May Allah protect us from the rejected Satan, and keep us all on the straight path. Ameen

You seem keen to learn and recite, so read, get the reward of Allah, and seek the greatest reward possible.  Insha’ Allah you will get your desire.
