Question

Assalamu aleikum wa rahmatulilahi wa barakatuh

I have a question regarding stopping on a word ending with a hamzah.
For example in surat al hashr verse 24 :".... Al Bari u..." . The word has a
hamzah with dhamma at the end. If we would like to stop on that word, do we
stop with a two vowel count such as " Al Barii"?
Would you please tell me the proper way to stop on this word (the Inventor of all things)?

May Allah reward you inshallah

Answer

Wa alaikum assalaam wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh.

If we want to stop on the word  we put a sukoon on the last letter, which is a hamzah.  The hamzah is written in this case on a letter , but it is not a , but a hamzah, so when we stop, we read the  with a kasrah then immediately read the hamzah with a sukoon.  It is a quick and short sound of the hamzah saakinah on the end of the word.  There is no two vowel count lengthening because the  is not pronounced as a  but as a hamzah.

May Allah reward you too and increase you in all khair.
