Question

Can you please tell me how the Qur'an was revealed; it is mentioned that such and such a surah was revealed in Makkah, another in Medinah and when.  How was the order of the surahs established?  May Allah bless you and reward you.

Answer

The Qur’an was revealed to Prophet Mohammed, over a period of 23 years.  13 of those years, when the Prophet, , lived in Makkah, and 10 after her migrated to Medinah.  The order of the different surahs, and even different aayaat in the surahs is part of the revelation.  Jibreel, peace be upon him, would inform the Prophet, , where  the Qur’an the newly revealed aayaat should be placed, or after which surah if it was a new surah.
