Question

Assalumualikum

I wanted to know  the rules for stopping after each surah, and what are the different ways of joining the last surah I read to the next one.
I was also wondering  what surah do you have to start saying allahoakbarr. I heard that you have to any this because the prophet did not get revelation for a long time and when he did he was so happy that he said allahoakbar.

Answer

Wa alaikum assalaam wa rahmatu Allahi wa barakatuh.

The rules for joining one surah to the next surah can be found at this link:
http://www.abouttajweed.com/the_basmalah_between_two_surahs.htm

The takbeer (saying Allahu Akbar) before the basmalah of each surah while making a complete reading of the Qur’an from the beginning to the end is not part of the reading of Hafs ‘An ‘Aasim by the way of Ash-Shatibiyyah.  In tareeq At-Tayyibah some ways have the option, of saying the takbeer from either the end of surah Adh-Dhuhaa until the end of surah An-Naas, or from the beginning of Ash-Sharh, until the beginning of An-Naas.  This is not a requirement except in a few ways, and you should be reading a particular way and know all the rules which accompany it.  A reminder, the place for the takbeer, for the ways of Hafs ‘an ‘Aasim by tareeq At-Tayyibah, is during a complete reading of the Qur’an (khatm) and not during prayers.  If you are reading individual surahs not as part of a khatm, the takbeer doesn’t apply.

Wa assalaam alaikum.
