Question

In Surah as-Saff  verse 2, how long is the ya which is then followed by a hamzah and means "Oh, you......"

Answer

In Surah As-Saff, aayah 2, Allah, the Exalted says:

The translation of the explanation of the meaning of the aayah is: O you who have believed, why do you say what you do not do?

Masha Allah, a very beautiful aayah and one we should all contemplate and apply in our lives.

The section you referred to is the area of the aayah in red.  Although written as one word,  it actually is two words.  The medd here of the alif of the ya for calling is or allowed separated lengthening.  That is because the last letter of the word is a harf medd, in this case an alif, and the first letter of the next word is a hamzah: This medd we lengthen 4 or 5 counts when reciting Hafs an Aasim by the Shatabiyyah way.

This question is similar to one answered yesterday, but your question here was received before the answer was posted.  Repetition is good for all.  May Allah reward all of you for your questions, you are helping many Muslims learn.
