Question

As-salamu-alaikum
I read your homepage with great interest and I happy I found someone I possibly could direct my question to. If I may ask straight forwardly what classical Arabic literature you can recommend me for learning the rules of tajweed. I may want to note that I would like to ask about some real classics and less about modern or newly written issues.

Answer

Wa alaikum assalaam wa rahmatu Allahi wa barakatuh.

May we congratulate you in looking for the classic works since they were written closer to the time of origin of the study of tajweed and at a time when scholars were many.

We do not know your level of tajweed, but will list a few, insha' Allah, that are considered some of the best reference materials in the science of tajweed.

The famous poem that gives the rules of tajweed written by Imam Al-Jazaree (died 833 Al-Hijarah) is:

Its explanation is necessary and exists by more than one scholar, one is by Ash-Sheikh Zakariyyaa Al-Ansaari, rahimahu Allah , (died 926 h).

A book considered an excellent source, but not as old is "" written by Ash-Sheikh Muhammed Makkee Nasr, rahimahu Allah, (died 1305 h).

Another two volume work that is a very good reference to have is  by Imam Ali Mohammed As-Sakhaawee rahimahu Allah, (died 643h).  This work has a lot of history of the division of the Qur'an into parts as well as some tajweed.  It would not be the prime source for tajweed knowledge, but a good reference book to have.

Wa iyyakum wa-l-muslimeen.

Wa alaikum assalaam wa rahmatu Allah.
