Question

As salaam alaikum wa rahmatu Allahi wa barakatuh to you all,

I have been wondering how to keep proper pace when learning to recite the Qur'an.  I remember reading that most non-native speakers of 'Arabic have trouble with the timing/ 'beats' for the vowels and the medd, as referenced here:  http://www.abouttajweed.com/commonerr.htm

So, I am curious if any of you have ever tried using a metronome to assist us with this common error:

Answer

Wa alaikum assalaam wa rahmatu Allahi wa barakatuh.

The metronome maybe could help as far as vowel and medd timings, but would throw the reader completely off when it came to ghunnah timing, which is not measured with vowel counts, and saakin letter timings which again are not based on vowel timings.  It could not be used with recitation then, because the metronome wouldn’t stop during the saakin letters or during the ghunnan and all the timing then would be off.

Wa assalaam alaikum
