Question

I know I should read and study Qur'an more than I do.  I can really come up with all sorts of excuses, which in actuality are not really valid!  Is there any hadith you could quote me to help encourage me in my study of the Holy Qur'an so I can stop procrastinating?  Thanks!

Answer

One of the greatest ways for us to get close to Allah, the Exalted, is by reading His words.  Shaytan will therefore do all he can to try and dissuade us from reciting, studying, and learning the Qur’an.  Here are a few hadeeths that insha’ Allah will encourage you, and you are very welcome.

Bukhari and Muslim related that the Prophet,  said, “The best of you are those who learn the Qur’an and teach it.”

At-Tirmithi related that the Messenger of Allah, , said, “It will be said to the companion of the Qur’an: Recite and rise up and read with tarteel [tajweed] as you read with tarteel in the worldly life, for verily your place is at the last aayah that you recite.”

An-Nasaa’ee and Ibn Maajah related that the Messenger of Allah, , said, “Verily there is for Allah people of mankind.”  They said, “Who are they O Messenger of Allah?”  He said, “The people of the Qur’an, they are the people of Allah and His special ones.”
