In the reading of Hafs ‘an ‘Aasim, the letters at the beginning of Al-Qasas: are read following the normal rules of tajweed.  The letter  ends with a  saakinah, and it is followed by a .  We therefore merge the  into the , so we recite it as a  with a shaddah and accompanying ghunnah.  We do not pronounce the  saakinah, since it is merged into the .    There is a different way of recitation that does make the  saakinah clear in this letter combination of separated letters, but not the recitation of Hafs.
