Question

Assalaam alaikum. Insha Allah, could you give us some advice for tajweed students who will be away from their classes for the summer so they can minimize the loss of the skills they have acquired up to that point?

May Allah reward you.

Answer

Wa alaikum assalaam wa rahmatu Allahi wa barakatuh.  The most important thing to do is make a practical schedule for review and not deviate from it.  What we have memorized of the Qur'an is a blessing from Allah and we should always have a schedule for review and stick to it.  This is not only for the summer, but for all year long.

The applied tajweed skills can be kept up by being careful not to get lazy in the recitation and always trying to recite with the best possible tajweed.  The best way, of course, is for someone to listen and correct you, but if that is not possible, keeping high standards for oneself is second best.

A period of time should be set aside for daily review and recitation.  This time should be a time when the student of the Qur'an is sure they will not be disturbed frequently; for example, after Fajr prayers.

May Allah guide all students of the Qur'an to the best tajweed and make easy for them review of what they have memorized as well as memorizing new parts of the Qur'an.  Ameen.

May Allah reward you also as well as all Muslims.
