Question
I
have a question about the definition I have found for
(the basic or
natural medd). It says: "it is the med that without which the
letter cannot exist and it does not stop due
to a hamzah or a sukoon". What is meant here by "does not
stop"? Answer The natural lengthening, is two vowel counts. If there is a hamzah or a sukoon after a medd letter, then the medd is longer. The medd stops, or the timing of the medd ends, when the reciter reaches the next letter, in this case a hamzah or any other letter that has a sukoon. In other words, the extra lengthening that occurs because of the hamzah or sukoon extends the medd, so it is no longer a natural two vowel count lengthening, but now something longer, and this extra lengthening is caused by a hamzah or sukoon. |
