Question

Assalamu Aleikum

I have a question regarding "joining a word with another" without saying the Bismillah.
In Surat Al Qamar verse 55, there is a small letter miim underneath the letter ra'. I know that the small miim indicates that the next letter will be the letter "ba". Therefore when continuing reading, the letter "ba" (for Bismillah on the next line) should be read with the ghunna sound. My question is: What is the rules of Hafs by the way of Ash Shatibiyyah if one would like to join (meaning read) the last verse of surat Al Qamar with the first verse of
surat Ar Rahman without saying the bismillah? Should the little miim be still applied?
May Allah reward you for the advice you wrote concerning surat Al Insan.
Ma Salam

Answer

Wa alaikum assalaam wa rahmatu Allahi wa barakatuh,

In the recitation of Hafs, it is required to say the basmalah whether starting a surah by itself or joining two surahs together, except there is no basmalah before surah At-Tawbah.  In joining surah al-Qamar with surah Ar-Rahmaan without taking a breath between the end of al-Qamar and the basmalah and again without a breath between al-basmalah and surah Ar-Rahmaan, the iqlaab rule would be applied on the tanween of the word , since a  follows it (). Please also see: http://www.abouttajweed.com/the_basmalah_between_two_surahs.htm for more details on the allowed ways of joining two surahs together in the way of Hafs.

Wa iyyaakum. Wa assalaam alaikum wa rahmatu Allah.
