Question

ASSALAMOALIEKUM.

Can you gave me some tips how to learn qiraa’t Warsh, and are there any books for beginners for qiraa’t Warsh?  I had a sheik in local mosque who knows all 7 qira’at. He had given me a Qur'an with the recitation of Warsh, but he can not teach because he is sick.  He sad that if I can learn some basics of Warsh and practice with cassettes and cd's then can listen to me and correct me! Can you help me on teaching me some basic rules? JAZAKALLAH, WASSALLAM.

Answer

Wa alaikum assalaam wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh.

We have received many requests for lessons on the qir’aat, and in particular for the recitation of Warsh.  We had hoped to have a new design set up before starting the qira’aat, but as Allah willed, it has not finished due to technical problems.  We are pleased to announce that we have started posting the rules for the recitation of Warsh in the Tajweed Tidbit lesson area of this site.  The rules will be put up slowly over a period of time.

We are starting with Warsh instead of Qaloon because of popular demand.  We ask Allah to make this easy for us and a source of knowledge for those who are advanced students of the Qur’an, but are not proficient enough in Arabic to learn from the many Arabic sources on this subject.  To learn the first set of rules for the recitation of Warsh, please click here: http://www.abouttajweed.com/titbitlessons.htm

Please be reminded that this is just a few rules of the recitation of Warsh and the rest of the rules will be posted over a period of time.

For beginning or advanced students who are learning the rules of tajweed for the way most of the Muslims recite, the recitation of Hafs ‘an ‘Aasim, please click on the following link: http://www.abouttajweed.com/tidbitarchive.htm
